I am Rikiya Takehi, a fourth‑year undergraduate student in the Real Sakai Lab.
From 22 to 26 February 2026, I had the honor of attending WSDM 2026 in Boise, USA. This is a top tier international conference in the field of Data Mining.
Our paper explores the problem of minimizing intent failures in a search ranking:
Diversification as Risk Minimization (Rikiya Takehi, Fernando Diaz, Tetsuya Sakai).
[Padua, Italy]
It took me about 16 hours to fly from Tokyo. The temperature was similar to that of Tokyo, but we could see some snow on the mountains. The town was clean and I think it was a typical American landscape.

[The Conference & Award]
This was my first WSDM, but I was happy to reunite with a few people from SIGIR & other conferences of the previous years. My presentation was on the final day, where I had many valuable discussions during and after the session.
I am very honored to receive the Best Full Research Paper Award (1 out of 799 submissions)!

The food was unique and had a lot of volume. We had the reception on Day 2, where we had tacos and pizzas. And we had the banquet on the Day 3 with some steak! I walked around the town too. It was a safe, friendly, and fancy town!

[Overall]
I had a great time socializing and meeting people at WSDM. I would recommend submitting to WSDM 2027 next year!
